Rapid Application Development was created out of frustration with the Waterfall project methodology. By the time a product is released after using the Waterfall methodology, it is often already outdated. RAD allows the project to be worked on until the client is happy, however Waterfall projects have to stick to a planned schedule and if any important changes need to be made, the project has to start all over again from the first phase. Projects using Waterfall management tend to be either very small or very large with the developer team being small to large. Projects that use RAD, however, tends to be small or medium-sized and the developer team needs to be small. In terms of experience, project members need to be very experienced, multi-talented and flexible while those who use Waterfall don’t need to be very experienced.
