Psychology began back in the 19th century

Psychology began back in the 19th century. The approaches psychologist have used to evaluate the issues that interest them and how it has dramatically changed over the history of psychology. Psychology has moved steadily from speculation about behaviour towards a more clinical and scientific approach as there is different sources available now such as technology. At the start of the 19th century psychologist were mostly men now a days most of the psychologist are now women. Wilhelm Wundt was first founded in exclusive laboratory in 1879 at the University of Leipzig which was located in Germany. Wilhelm Wundt was known as the first ever psychologist and also was known as ‘father of psychology’.Wundt and his co-worker carried out investigations through introspection. Introspection is analysing one person’s conscious thoughts and feelings, this is also the way we all self-reflect on a situation. This was done in controlled conditions but had very little ecological validity. They put theories to the test that dated back thousands of years
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher and Mathematician. He was considered ‘the father of modern philosophy’. He introduced new theories about how the mind and the body where not always correct. He undoubtedly changed people views and opinions and opened a whole new approach to looking at the mind.
