BACKGROUND
The history of Nestlé company started in 1866 with the foundation of the “Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company”. By shrinking the volume of milk, the company produced a concentrated form of it. Its founder, Henri Nestlé a German-born pharmacist, developed a revolutionised infant food in 1867. He launched the ” Farine Lactee”, a French definition of “Flour with milk” in Vevey, Switzerland which was immediately widely acclaimed. It combined cow’s milk, wheat flour and sugar for infants who cannot be breastfed. This brought lots of relief to mothers who could not nurse their babies. Henri Nestle thus helped in tackling a high mortality rate, by providing the appropriate nutrition to babies whose mothers were not having sufficient milk.
During the same period, he started using the logo ” Bird Nest”. The original trademark was based on his family coat of arms which shows a bird on a nest. This refers to his family’s name which means “nest” in German. Henry Nestle adapted the coat of arms by including three young birds being fed by their mother to show the relation between his name and his infant’s product. The logo is now used on all Nestle products but in a modified form.

Nestle is therefore engaged in Pharmaceuticals, Para-pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals. Its products are of international fame and many are brand leaders. It has over 300,000 workers globally, out of which more than 10,000 are from Switzerland.

These principles are nutrition, health and wellness, quality assurance, consumer communication, human rights, agricultural and rural development, leadership and personal responsibility, safety and health at work, supplier and customer relations, environmental sustainability and water. The first seven principles guide Nestle how to run business. The last three principles shape Nestle how to hand-over back to the community and the environment, through sustainable ethical business practice.

The objectives of this company are mainly business-oriented as it is primarily a manufacturing enterprise.
It advocates the industrial preparation and promotion of products while supporting and providing durable worth to its investors, owners, workers, clients and commercial associates.
Nestle encourages durable profitability instead of short-range gains.
