Greenblatt stated that “the best kind of humor is pretty serious, and Mark Twain’s jokes go to the roots of human nature. It’s humor that doesn’t depend on its own time. It’s universal” (1). When “Mark Twain” the humorist ascended, a novelist of tall and bizarre stories. He gained acknowledgement with the entertaining work of art “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. When Twain came back from Hawaii he turned out to be a successful entertaining speaker (Twain, 1). When Mark Twain told an American story the only thing that was of importance was in the of form of which it was told. Many examples of American humorous stories came from Mark Twain’s pen (Middlekauff, 449). Here are just a few examples of his humors in his storytelling’s. “Rise early-it is the early bird that catches the worm. Don’t be fooled by this absurd saw. I once knew a man who tried it. He got up at sunrise and a horse bit him” (Anderson). “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society” (Twain, 942). It is the foreign element that commits our crimes. There is no native criminal class except Congress (Twain, 944).
